TheraPlus Saint Louis Physical Therapy and Personal Training in Brentwood

We train athletes by maximizing their strength, power, explosiveness, and endurance while minimizing their deficits and risk of injury.

You might not need to pull a truck but we can get your trunk and hips stronger for your sport.

How do we do this? We begin with a mixed assessment combining physical therapy, the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), and the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). This evaluation examines your alignment, posture, strength, balance, joint motion, flexibility, explosiveness, movement patterns and compensations.

We then develop a program based on your current fitness ability, schedule, training load, competitive schedule and training age.

We train athletes based on the Pyramidal Model of Athletic Performance. At the four corners of the pyramid are Skill, Strength, Speed, and Endurance.

Pyramidal Model of Athletic Performance The heart of this model is understanding that maximal strength is related but different from endurance-strength and speed-strength.  Speed is related but different from speed-endurance and strength-speed. Which of these qualities is important to your chosen sport and activity?  How do you rate in this quality? How do you emphasize the development of this quality?  This is where we help you decide and make better choices.

We use a conjugated periodization model to develop numerous athletic qualities at one time. Exercises are cycled to push your body for maximal adaptations through constant change.

Typical periodization is structured this way:

Hallie goes for the spike at Volleyball Regionals

Going for the spike and kill at Regionals

4 weeks of Endurance Training
4 weeks of Strength Training
4 weeks of Power Training
4 weeks of Speed Training

With conjugated periodization, strength, speed, power, and endurance are all addressed simultaneously to help you perform optimally all season long, with a terrific peak at the climax of the season instead of gambling on peaking for only one event.

While improving your base of conditioning and sport specific athletic abilities, we also address movement quality issues to minimize the likelihood of injury. We want to maximize not only your success but also your longevity in your sport.
